About

Hi I’m David Mathews, and I was a candidate for ACT Labor in Molonglo at the 2008 ACT Election.

I was born in Colac, Victoria in 1962 and attended Colac West Primary School and Colac High School until my family moved to Coffs Harbour, New South Wales in 1977. I completed my schooling at Orara High School and moved to Sydney in 1981 attending the University of Sydney and Ryde College.

In the mid 80s I joined the Commonwealth Public Service and spent 12 years in the Departments of Housing, Health and Community Services. In 1994 I moved to Canberra where in 1997 I left the public service and worked as an IT consultant and regional manager for a range of local, national and multinational organisations. Since 2004 I have co-owned and managed an IT Services and Consulting business in Fyshwick.

I am on the ACT committee of the Australian Information Industry Association and Canberra.NET, an industry collaboration cluster.

I am also a member of Civil Liberties Australia, the Australian Republican Movement, the Canberra Business Council, and am a member of the Australian Computer Society.

I live in Hughes with my wife Debbie, my daughter Eleanor and our two dogs Miki and Max.

Outside of family, work and politics, I am passionate about writing and playing music, the outdoors, and the Eastlake and Carlton Football Clubs.
